Irelamd is close to home for Brits but it's just another part of the world for the yanks. It's not really much different from knowing whether it's finalnd or Sweden that retains its own currency, or whether Mongolia does.
He's certainly not well informed but it's not entirely unexpected either.

Khalil Gibran was a Lebanese poet and mystic from, I think, late 19th early 20th century. His best known work is 'the prophet' available at any decent occult or mystical bookstore in English. Probably also your nearest public library.
